As well as handmade terra cotta flowerpots they sometimes make gardenpots based on historic designs, such as rhubarb forcers, seakale pots and cloches, based on 18th century British examples. The parselypots, strawberrypots and lettuce cloches are models that have been designed for specific purposes. A variation on the strawberrypot is the shallow herb pot, for growing an assortment of kitchen herbs. The birdpots, such as the titpot, the sparrowpot and the starlingpot, are ceramic nesting pots. In the past they were used to attract birds from the culinary-point of view i.e. to be eaten! Today these nesting pots are a very welcome habitat for birds to build their nests when possibilities of finding suitable places to lay their eggs have reduced due to new building methods. By firing to a temperature of 1050 degrees Celcius this clay reaches an optimal strength without loosing itıs porosity.
