Both Her Comis and Paulien Ploeger make pots for everyday life, ordinary objects which are very special when one looks at them further. Through direct contact with the clay the personal vision of each maker is directly translated into the material. The oval dishes, jars, cups and bowls are made out of stoneware clay as well as porcelain clay from Limoges. Saltglazing is a demanding technique, but the result is unique. Fired at a temperature of 1280 degrees Celcius in the kiln, the clay becomes glazed by adding salt (sodium) during the firing process. Hereby the work obtains a clear presence and a very great power of attraction.
